Let’s explore the details of this innovative new supplement below.

What is Boswellia?

Boswellia serrata — otherwise known as frankincense — is a hardy tree found growing throughout arid regions in the middle east.

This ancient tree secretes a resin rich in health-promoting terpenoids and triterpenoids. People have been using this resin for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties.

The Ayurvedic medical system is especially well-versed in using Boswellia — where it’s applied topically to wounds to sterilize and promote healing, and taken internally for digestive issues and poor appetite.

Modern research has since highlighted even more uses for the herb, especially pertaining to its powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.

How Does Boswellia Work?

Boswellia owes most of its health benefits to a series of compounds known as boswellic acids. These compounds are powerfully antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.

What makes it special is in how it achieves these effects.

Most anti-inflammatories work through an enzyme known as COX (cyclooxygenase). This enzyme is responsible for converting arachidonic acids into inflammatory messengers. By inhibiting it, we can slow the rate and severity of inflammation in the body. But these effects have their limits.

There’s another enzyme that works alongside COX that creates a different type of inflammatory messengers that often gets overlooked — known as 5-LOX (5-lipoxygenase).

Boswellia works by inhibiting both the COX enzymes [1], and the 5-LOX enzyme [2]. This gives the herb a much more well-rounded anti-inflammatory benefit than other traditional anti-inflammatory herbal or nutritional supplements.

Other compounds in the resin have potent antioxidant effects — protecting the arteries, digestive tissues, and neurons from the damaging effects of free radicals.

The Benefits of Boswellia:

  • Protects the brain from the negative effects of aging
  • Supports cardiovascular health
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Supports digestive health

What Makes Focus Supplements Boswellia Special?

1. 5:1 Concentrated Extract

Boswellia is a potent herbal supplement — but requires a large dose to produce most of its benefits.

Instead of making you take several capsules per day to receive the benefits this plant has to offer, we’ve developed a concentrated 5:1 extract of the active ingredients in the resin.

This means that our extracts have 5 times the active constituents as raw Boswellia resin of the same weight, allowing for a much more manageable daily dose.

2. Clean Fillers

Our Boswellia is made using all-natural, clean fillers.

Most supplements require fillers to give it the best qualities possible. In the case of Boswellia, the fillers are used to add some bulk to the extract and improve the absorption rates of the extract to maximise its effects even further.

We don’t use any soy, dairy, artificial or animal-based ingredients in our Boswellia extracts. The capsules themselves are made from plant-based cellulose so it’s suitable for vegans and vegetarians to enjoy.

Boswellia Serrata 5:1 Extract Highlights

Boswellia has been used for years for treating inflammatory conditions, digestive issues, cardiovascular disease, and arthritis.

Our 5:1 concentrated extract is a 500% concentration of the original boswellic acids, and active triterpenes and triterpenes found in Boswellia resin. This means you only need a fraction of the dose normally needed to get the benefits this amazing plant has to offer.

With our new branding, and focus on using all-natural, non-GMO, vegan-friendly ingredients you can be rest assured the supplement you’re using is top-notch and free from the harmful side-effects of synthetic supplement additives.
